This new 2020 model has all the same features. The MacBook Air display went “Retina” in 2018 (2560 x 1600-pixels to be exact) and the MacBook Air (2019) introduced the “True Tone” display that automatically makes adjustments to the color temperature of the screen last year. The panel was one of our favorite features of the MacBook Air (2019). There were no major changes made to the MacBook Air's (2020) display, which isn't a complaint. While one or two more USB-C ports would be welcome, Apple, at least, didn’t take anything away. No changes were made here the MacBook Air (2020) has the same dual Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) ports and 3.5mm headphone jack selection as the MacBook Air (2019). We've probably said enough about it already, but yes the new keyboard is a massive win for the MacBook Air (2020). The large Force Touch trackpad on the MacBook Air (2020) remains identical to its predecessor, which was already best-in-class. This makes finding these keys by touch much easier. The one other notable change to the keyboard is the return of the inverted T arrow keys, which were banished in the 2018 redesign.

The MacBook Air remains free of the TouchBar, with just the Touch ID fingerprint reader in the top-right corner of the keyboard. Not only is the new Magic Keyboard a more pleasant typing experience day-to-day, but it should keep working reliably for years to come.

We probably don’t have to convince you of the superiority of the new scissor key design, but the Laptop Mag staff did do a side-by-side comparison after the 16-inch MacBook Pro was released and unanimously sided with the Magic Keyboard. The only other downer - especially now that most of us are stuck at home doing a lot more video conferences for the foreseeable future - is that Apple stuck with its 720p webcam. But it's Intel's Core i3 - and as my colleague Dan Ackerman pointed out, "A Core i3 is what you get in cheap Black Friday doorbuster laptops." Though we haven't yet tested the new model, stepping up to the Core i5, which tacks on an extra $100, is almost certainly a worthwhile, and possibly essential, upgrade. The previous entry-level model featured Intel's eighth-gen dual-core i5 CPU, while the new MacBook Air comes equipped with a 10th-gen dual-core Intel chip. The only possible exception is that processor. Nearly all of these changes, and especially the lower starting price, are indisputably positive steps forward.
